The land is the future
We are Azienda Agricola Tenute Catena, a family rooted in the heart of the Cilento, among the old olive trees of Bellosguardo, in the province of Salerno, southern Italy.
Our story
The name Catena comes from our great-grandfather Pietrangelo’s nickname. In the village they called him that — Italian for «chain» — because of the elegant pocket watch on a gold chain he always carried: a rare luxury at the time, and above all a mark of dignity and character. That nickname became the name of the farm, and his given name became the name of our finest oil.
His heir, our grandfather Pepe, passed on to us the love for this land and its olives. Our chilli condiment is named after him: PEPE, the first four letters of his surname.
Our products
We make single-cultivar Rotondella extra virgin olive oil — the olive typical of the Salerno hills — and artisan condiments. Our olive trees grow above 400 metres, on unspoilt land inside the Cilento National Park. Picking is done by hand; cold pressing preserves the oil’s aromatic qualities.
